You open a Credit Khata shop in the counter app: tap Open a shop, give your name, email and a password, name your shop, pick your currency and tap Create my shop. Then go to Customers → New customer, enter a name and phone number (plus any balance carried over from your paper register) and share their account with a link or login code.

The whole setup takes a few minutes, needs no card, and every new shop starts with a month of Pro to try everything.

Before you start

You need an email address you can open, and a browser on a computer, tablet or phone. The counter app lives at ck.abdohoo.app/pos-pwa. If you prefer a native app, Credit Khata is on Google Play for Android 8.0 or newer; it uses the same account, so you can start on one and carry on in the other.

Step 1: open your shop account

  1. Open the counter app and tap Open a shop.
  2. On the first step, You, enter Your name, Email, Password (at least 8 characters) and Confirm password, then tap Next.
  3. On Your shop, type your Shop name and tap your Business type, for example Grocery / general store or Pharmacy / medical store.
  4. Under Add shop details (optional) you can add a phone, WhatsApp number, city, address or tax number now, or skip it and fill it in later from Profile. Tap Next.
  5. On Money, answer "Which currency do you keep your book in?", for example PKR. Any currency works, and you can change it later in your profile.
  6. If a security check appears, tick it, then tap Create my shop.

You land on the Sales screen, already signed in, and a welcome email confirms which address the account is on. That address is where a password reset will go, so use one you check.

Step 2: add your first customer

  1. Open Customers and tap New customer. On a phone you can also go to Home and tap Add customer under Quick actions.
  2. Enter the customer's Name and Phone. A name and a phone number are enough.
  3. If they already owe you from the paper register, tap Opening balance and enter that amount.
  4. Add anything else only if you need it: WhatsApp, City, Address, Currency, Notes, or Email & password if the customer wants to sign in with an email.
  5. Tap Create customer. Their page opens, ready for the first entry.

Step 3: let the customer see their account

Credit Khata is a shared ledger: the customer reads the same record you write. On the customer's page you have two ways to give them access:

  • Share link makes a link you can Copy link or Send on WhatsApp. It works once and expires in 24 hours, so it suits customers who are not standing at the counter.
  • Login code shows a short code and a QR code. It is single-use and expires in about 5 minutes, so use it while the customer is in front of you: they type the code or scan the QR on their own phone.

The customer does not need to install anything. The link opens their account in the Credit Khata app if they have it, or in the browser if they do not. What they see is explained in For customers: open your account, check entries and pay the shop.

Using the Android app instead

In the Android app, tap Open a shop on the sign-in screen and follow the same steps, or sign in with the email and password you created on the web. To skip the password, open Profile in the web counter, tap Show sign-in QR under Sign in on your phone, then tap Scan QR on the app's sign-in screen and point the camera at it; the code works once and changes every few minutes. New customers are added from the Customers tab with the New customer button. Customers and entries you add on the phone are saved on it first and sync by themselves, even if the signal drops.

Frequently asked questions

Is Credit Khata free for shops?

Yes. The Free plan keeps the credit book itself, with a cap on customers and on transactions a day, and every new shop gets its first month of Pro free. Pro and Business are paid plans for busier shops; you upgrade in the Android app through Google Play, or with a reseller key in the counter app under Profile → Plan. Customers never pay.

Does my customer need to install an app?

No. A customer can open their account in any phone browser from the link or login code you give them. The Android app is optional.

Can I carry over what customers already owe in my paper register?

Yes. When you create the customer, tap Opening balance and enter what they owe today. New entries are added on top of it.

Can I use the same account on a computer and a phone?

Yes. The counter app runs in a browser on a computer, tablet or phone, and the Android app signs in to the same shop and the same ledger. On the web counter, Profile → Sign in on your phone shows a QR the Android app can scan, so you do not have to type your password.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and enter your shop account's email. The reset link works once and lasts an hour.
